Welcome from the President of ITS-Arab
H.E Eng Abdullah Al Mogbel
Deputy Minister of Transport, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Growing transport demands over the last few years are healthy signs of a growing economy and social prosperity. However, when these demands exceed the transport network capacity, it puts increasing strain on network efficiency and can slow economic growth and social prosperity. The free movement of people and goods reflects the lifeblood of successful economies
Experience from around the world has shown that expanding transport capacity alone is not enough. In addition, what we need are “managed” transport networks in which new innovative technologies play a critical role. These technologies include incident detection, traffic and travel information, traffic control, passenger information systems, safety and security enforcement and road user charging. These technologies enable applications that in turn enable operating authorities – however they are funded – to improve the safety, efficiency, reliability and security of the transport network for users and all other stakeholders
The collective name for the planned use of these technologies to improve the effectiveness of the transport network and enable new applications is Intelligent Transport Systems or simply ‘ITS’
The objective of ITS-Arab is to promote the development and deployment of these technologies through a sustainable approach such as Public- Private Partnerships. Hence, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to become a member of ITS-Arab and participate in its future success
I look forward to working with you
