Siemens interested to build Abu Dhabi’s $7bn metro and tram system

The German engineering giant Siemens is among international contractors interested in building Abu Dhabi’s $7 billion metro and light rail project. The project is expected to be complete by 2020 and will save the emirate billions of dirhams in time lost to traffic congestion.

According to The National, the award for the $7bn first phase of the Metro and Light Rail project is due to be made by March 2014. Bids had to be submitted to the Emirate's Department for Transport yesterday.

The event will provide updates about the twin schemes and allow contractors and suppliers to understand the potential for their future involvement. There are two separate events, which are due take place on Tuesday, 30 April 2013 and Wednesday 1 May 2013 in Abu Dhabi City.
